HOT MOMS
Self-objectification is the tendency for women to sexually objectify their own bodies, or treat them as objects for the sexual pleasures of others. One period of time in a women's life where self-objectification happens excessively is during pregnancy.
Can the dimensions of body functionality be protective or render us more vulnerable? Can pregnancy be a liberating moment for a woman (a rest from the sexualizing gaze) or, on the contrary, is pregnancy a moment of heightened self-surveillance and self-comparison?
In my 60-minutes online show, my six months pregnant body and I set out to perform a series of public and private shows where I’ll dance, explore movement, compare my body to a bunch of objects, and hold space for conversation and interaction with the audience.
