DIVOCEAN
is a place of divine wishes. It is weak, vulnerable, and it hangs by a thread.
In this performance, Antonio Onio explores the idea of creating a space in the theatrical realm where an exorcism can happen. Inspiring himself in specific episodes from his personal life, his focus goes towards all of us know: a broken heart. Inside of a never-ending circle of sadness, misery, disgust and helplessness, Antonio uses singing as a practice of passage of these sensations into a higher place. Like a summoner, he summons what is already inside, what cannot be changed, something so tragic that singing becomes the only way the tragicness can be altered.
Refusing narratives, climaxes, and questions such as “why?” DIVOCEAN sails through. Visiting symbologies, grabbing and releasing them rapidly, as the voice and its relationship between the body and what is the performer’s tool for creating a space of devotion, via all its mechanisms of affect. It is a unilateral “body concert” where different streams of consciousness are brought into space. António uses his own vulnerability and weakness to draw from there the performative strength he needs to create a divine realm inside the space. Moreover, while this intimate experience happens, the audience is invited to sit down and witness one man's never-ending love declaration for the power of love, itself.
